Crewing for a Hot Air Balloon

When you volunteer to crew for a hot air balloon, you help the pilot to safely launch the aircraft, follow the balloon during the flight, talk to the pilot during the chase on the radio, assist at the landing, help pack-up the balloon and most importantly have fun!

We need crew who can do any or all of the following:
- lift the basket, fan and balloon envelope
- hold the handling lines during inflation
- drive the chase vehicle (driver license required)
- communicate with the pilot, friends and family of the riders and landowners
- get up early in the morning for those sunrise morning flights

Rewards of crewing:
- making new, lifelong friends
- visiting new places
- receiving a ride when space allows
- in the summer...sometimes there's ice cream after a flight!

How to dress for crewing:
- long pants, generally jeans as you sometimes get dirt on them (all seasons)
- cotton shirts, long sleeves can be helpful at times
- sturdy shoes such as tennis shoes, boots or other shoes with backs (sandals and mules don't work very well when running after a balloon through a field)
- warm clothing in the wintertime, preferably not nylon jackets
- leather gloves (if you don't have any, we can provide them)
