Riding in a Hot Air Balloon is like no other type of flying.
It is an unusual sensation of floating combined with a beautiful display of the
earth below. Ballooning is also a peek into the past. The dream of
flying has always been in the minds of men and was first accomplished in a hot
air balloon.
Experience the beauty of South Dakota by drifting gently over
the prairie and farmland. Once aloft, the balloon floats so softly on the
breezes that the wind "disappears" - there is no sensation of movement, for you
have become the wind drifting along. Catch a bird's-eye view of the
natural beauty of the landscape in the ever-changing seasons. Imagine what
the first settlers must have seen as their prairie schooners crossed the area
many years ago. Quite often we see deer, pheasant and other wildlife as we
drift gently along.
For over 13 years Prairie Sky has delighted customers with balloon flights
over the scenery of South Dakota. Prairie Sky offers hot air balloon
rides, flight instruction and flight testing for private or commercial
certificates in hot air balloons. We fly the entire year: spring, summer,
winter and fall.

Kay West, President and Chief Pilot has more than 1400 hours as Pilot In
Command of her hot air balloons, trained over 10 students and is the only FAA
designated Pilot Examiner for hot air balloons in the State of South Dakota.
